# Inventory components

> Review the raw ad-server inventory that becomes products buyers can discover.

An **inventory component** is the raw material your ad server exposes — ad
units, placements, avails, and related inventory detail — before it is packaged
for sale. Components come from a connected ad-server inventory source when it
syncs; they are discovered rather than authored, and are not directly sellable
on their own.

In **Inventory Components**, accept components you want available for product
authoring, hide ones you do not want to use, or remap a component when its
publisher, property, or placement needs correction. These decisions prepare the
inventory you select from when you create a product; they do not alter the
source inventory in your ad server.

The Merchandising Agent uses accepted components when it composes products at
discovery. Review mappings before creating products so the agent starts with
the inventory and representation you intend to sell.

Read the [component glossary entry](/v2/concepts/glossary#component--inventory-component)
for the distinction between a component, product, source, and selector. Then
follow [Create products from ad-server inventory](/v2/storefront/inventory-sources/create-products)
to turn reviewed components into products buyers can discover and buy.

## Find inventory

Inventory Components lists one inventory type at a time. When your ad server
offers more than one type, such as Google Ad Manager placements and ad units,
choose the type to browse. If your FreeWheel products require Ad Units or Ad
Unit Packages, you choose those in the product form rather than here.

* **Search** matches any part of a component's name or its source ID, the
identifier your ad server uses for it. Case does not matter. For Google Ad
Manager ad units, searching for just `video` or `display` lists the ad units
that support that media type instead of matching names.
* **Source ID** appears on every row, so you can tell apart components with
similar names and match them to your ad server.
* **Pages** hold 50 components. When your ad server has more, **Load more
from the ad server** fetches the next 50.

Your accept, hide and remap decisions, and the components you select, stay in
place while you search, change type or load more, so you can draft one product
from components found in different searches. They last while Inventory
Components is open. Switching to a different ad-server source clears them.
